Privacy Policy

Effective date: November 7, 2026

Great Lakes Recycling Inc. d/b/a Simple Recycling and its affiliates (“Simple Recycling,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provide free pickup and recycling services for clothing and eligible household goods. This policy explains how we handle personal information through simplerecycling.com, pickup scheduling, customer accounts, inquiries, and related program communications. It does not replace a separate notice provided for employment or another specific activity.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide. We collect information you enter when checking service availability, scheduling or canceling a pickup, creating or using an account, contacting us, or requesting notice when service becomes available. Depending on the form, this includes your name; street address, apartment or unit, city, state, and ZIP code; email address; mobile or other telephone number; pickup date; selected program or affiliate; pickup instructions; and the contents of your messages. Account features also collect login and password-reset information, saved addresses, and pickup history. Please do not put Social Security numbers, payment-card details, medical information, access codes, or other sensitive information in pickup notes or ordinary messages.

Information collected automatically. Our website and third-party tools can collect IP address, browser and device information, cookie or similar identifiers, approximate location derived from IP address, referring pages, pages visited, clicks, and scheduling or other site interactions. These tools include Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google advertising tags, Meta/Facebook pixels, and an InsiderData360 script. Advertising and visitor-identification tools may associate browsing activity with information held by their providers. Map and address-search tools process the locations you search for; if you permit a location-enabled feature, it may also process your device location. You can decline device-location permission and enter a ZIP code instead.

Program partners. We may receive service-area, program, or resident inquiry information from a participating municipality or other program partner when needed to provide or resolve a requested service. The information depends on the program and the request. A partner’s own privacy notice governs its collection of information.

2. How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Check service eligibility and organize, confirm, perform, change, and cancel pickups, including providing drivers with the address and instructions needed for collection.
  • Create and maintain accounts, verify account access, and respond to questions or service issues.
  • Send service communications and, according to your preferences and applicable law, email marketing, service-area availability notices, and text updates.
  • Operate and improve our website and programs, measure program participation and advertising effectiveness, and support advertising and visitor-identification activities described below.
  • Protect against spam, fraud, unauthorized access, and other misuse; maintain business records; resolve disputes; and comply with legal obligations.

3. How we disclose information

We may disclose information to:

  • Our affiliates and service providers that support website hosting, account and pickup scheduling, address lookup, collection operations, customer support, email and text delivery, analytics, and security. Providers receive information needed for their work, subject to applicable legal and contractual requirements.
  • Participating municipalities or program partners for program administration, reporting, and resolving service requests. Reports should use aggregate or de-identified information where practicable; identifying details may be needed to address an individual pickup or complaint.
  • Analytics, advertising, and visitor-identification providers, including Google, Meta, and InsiderData360, through the technologies described in this policy. Their processing may also be subject to their own privacy notices.
  • Authorities, advisers, or other parties when reasonably necessary to comply with law or legal process, protect rights or safety, investigate misuse, or establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
  • Parties involved in a proposed or completed merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of a business or assets, subject to applicable law.

We may also disclose information at your direction. Aggregate or de-identified reports are intended not to identify individual residents.

4. Cookies, analytics, advertising, and your choices

Cookies, pixels, scripts, and similar technologies support account and website functions, security, analytics, advertising measurement, and advertising across websites. Our site uses Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager. Tag Manager configurations include Google Ads conversion and remarketing tags, Meta/Facebook pixels, and an InsiderData360 visitor-identification script. These tools may disclose device or online identifiers, IP address, browsing activity, and interaction information to their providers. Some advertising configurations can also use contact information for conversion matching. Such advertising disclosures may be a “sale,” “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising, or processing for targeted advertising under certain state laws, even when no money is exchanged.

To request an opt-out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising, email [email protected] with the subject “Privacy opt-out,” or call (866) 835-5068. Tell us which website and browser or device your request concerns; do not send sensitive identity documents in your initial request. Browser-based controls may need to be applied on each browser or device.

You can also block or delete cookies through your browser, although some account or scheduling functions may not work properly. For provider controls and explanations, visit Google Analytics Opt-out, Google My Ad Center, Meta Ad Preferences, and Digital Advertising Alliance choices. Provider controls do not necessarily stop all collection or all advertising, and do not replace a direct request to us.

Cloudflare provides site protection and uses a security cookie, including __cf_bm. Google reCAPTCHA helps protect forms from spam and abuse and may process device and interaction information. Its use is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Google Maps, address-lookup services, social media content, and other externally supplied features can also receive technical information when they load or are used.

5. Email and text communications

Our scheduling form includes choices for email marketing and SMS updates. You can change your selections before submitting the form. You may unsubscribe from marketing email using the link in the message or contact us. Unsubscribing from marketing does not necessarily stop non-marketing messages needed to manage a pickup, account, or privacy request.

If you opt in to text messages, messages may include pickup confirmations, reminders, service updates, or other updates described when consent is requested. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Consent to optional text messages is not a condition of receiving our free pickup service. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help, or contact us at (866) 835-5068. Opting out of texts does not cancel an already scheduled pickup. Mobile numbers and text-message consent information are used to operate the messaging program and are not shared with third parties for their own marketing. Service providers may process that information to deliver and support messages.

6. Retention

Personal information is retained according to the purposes for which it was collected, the duration of the customer or program relationship, service and recordkeeping needs, legal requirements, and the need to resolve disputes or protect against fraud. Different records may have different retention periods. Deletion requests are subject to lawful exceptions, including required records and information needed to complete an outstanding service. Backup copies may remain until their normal deletion or overwrite cycle. We do not promise immediate removal from every backup.

7. Security and incidents

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the information and our operations. No website, electronic transmission, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. Use a unique password for your account and avoid sending sensitive information through ordinary email or pickup notes. If an incident requires notice, we will provide notifications to affected individuals, regulators, or others as required by applicable law, including applicable state data-breach notification laws.

8. Your privacy choices and state-law rights

Depending on where you live and whether a law applies to our business or the information involved, residents of California, Connecticut, and other states may have rights to:

  • Confirm whether we process their personal information and access it, including required information about categories, sources, purposes, and recipients.
  • Correct inaccurate information, request deletion, and obtain a portable copy.
  • Request information about third-party disclosures, including a list of specific third parties where applicable law provides that right.
  • Opt out of sale, sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising, targeted advertising, or certain profiling and automated decisions; and limit certain uses or disclosures of sensitive personal information where applicable.
  • Use an authorized agent where allowed, appeal a denial where applicable, and exercise rights without unlawful discrimination.

Submit a request to [email protected] or call (866) 835-5068. Identify the right you want to exercise and provide enough information for us to locate relevant records, such as the email address used for your pickup. We may verify your identity or an agent’s authority using information appropriate to the request. We do not require identity verification for an opt-out where the law does not allow it. Do not send a full Social Security number, password, or identity document in your initial request.

We will respond within the time required by applicable law and explain any permitted extension, limitation, or denial. To appeal a denied request, contact the same email address with the subject “Privacy appeal,” or call and ask to appeal. Include the original request and why you believe the decision should be reconsidered. We will explain the appeal outcome within the applicable legal deadline. If an appeal is denied, you may contact your state attorney general; Connecticut residents may use the Connecticut Attorney General’s privacy resources. These rights may be subject to exceptions; this policy does not remove rights provided by law.

9. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

“Do Not Track” browser settings do not have a uniform technical standard, and our website does not respond to them as a general instruction to stop all tracking. Global Privacy Control (GPC) is different: where applicable law requires it, we treat a recognized opt-out preference signal as a request to opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising for the browser or device sending the signal. For information about enabling GPC, visit globalprivacycontrol.org. You may also contact us using the opt-out methods above.

10. Children

Our website and pickup scheduling services are not directed to children under 13. A parent, guardian, or other adult should arrange pickups. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review it and take action required by law. School fundraising partnerships do not require children to create pickup accounts.

11. Personal information in items left for pickup

Before leaving items for collection, check pockets, bags, and boxes and remove documents, photographs, labels, storage media, and other materials containing personal information. For any electronic device accepted by your local program, back up what you need, remove accounts and storage cards, and securely erase personal data before pickup. A basic deletion or factory reset may not erase all data.

Items intentionally left for our scheduled collection become Simple Recycling property once collected and may be sorted, resold, reused, exported, or recycled. Do not leave anything for collection that you wish to keep or are not authorized to transfer. We do not provide secure document destruction or certified data-erasure services and do not undertake to inspect items for personal information. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for personal information you leave in or on collected items. Contact us promptly if something was included by mistake; recovery is not guaranteed. Nothing in this paragraph excludes responsibilities that cannot lawfully be excluded.

12. Third-party websites and services

Links to other websites, including social networks and independently operated partner services, are provided for convenience. This policy does not govern those third parties’ independent practices. Review their privacy notices before providing information or using their services.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services, technology, or legal obligations change. The effective date identifies the current version. When applicable law requires additional notice or consent for a material change, we will provide it. Posting a revised policy does not by itself authorize a materially different use of previously collected information where notice or consent is legally required.
